About the Winery:
Alvento Winery is located in Vineland, adjacent to Lake Ontario. Founded in 2001, the 14 acre
vineyard on the waterfront of Jordan Harbour is now reaching optimal production for
winemaking. Small batch wines are crafted from established vines that offer quality fruit with
subtle complexities. This family-owned winery only produces about 3000 cases per year.
Job Description:
The role of Wine Associate will encompass a broad range of skills and responsibilities. This role
not only includes cellar door customer service, retail sales, special event assistance, general
housekeeping maintenance, but also includes any other tasks including inventory assistance,
general landscaping and any other roles required to achieve the benchmark standard at Alvento
Winery. In addition, access to personal transport is necessary as we will be participating in many
off-site events and Farmer's Markets this summer season. At these off-site events, you will take
on the role as an ambassador to the Alvento brand, describing and promoting the qualities and
merits our wines and services can offer. At the Farmer's Markets, you will engage in direct
face-to-face sales.
To ensure that all of our employees are fully knowledgeable, it is a job requirement that all
employees complete and pass Smart Serve training during their first month of employment. In
addition, it is expected that all employees will participate in an initial training program along with
ongoing participation in wine tastings to increase their nose and tasting ability. All cellar door
employees responsible for serving alcohol must be 19 years of age. As well, all employees must
take part in unloading, stacking, and restocking product (requires lifting of 40lbs), as well as
cleaning glasses and any other duties as assigned to maintain the level of appearance and
hospitality that Alvento Winery strives to achieve. Additional tasks are based on job description
and will be assigned as required.
Job Description as bullet points:
● Greet customers as they enter the winery in a friendly and prompt manner.
● Conduct cold calling sales, customer experience follow-up
● Converse with customers about Alvento’s wines, the appellation, and Niagara tourism.
● Serve samples at the tasting bar and promote wine sales to guests.
● Process payments and sales using our Point of Sale system in an accurate and timely
manner.
● Conduct winery tours and private group tastings.
● Assist in opening, closing and cleaning duties throughout the shift.
● Stock shelves with wine bottles and specific merchandise.
● Answer phones and book tours, private tastings, and B&B reservations when needed.
● Participate and contribute to Digital Media marketing of the winery.
● Assist customers with large orders to their car.
● May be required to work on off-site events and Farmer's Markets
Job requirements:
● You are passionate about wines and love to talk about them
● You can lift 40lbs and stand on your feet for an extended period of time
● You are friendly, warm, and you value customer service.
● You have your Smart Serve Certification and are at least 19 years of age
● You have your own means of transportation to and from the winery for your shift.
● You are a proactive problem solver and a team player.
● Previous winery or customer service experience is an asset.
● Education in wine, hospitality, tourism, or viticulture is an asset.
● Must be able to work weekends.
● Knowledge of a second language is also an asset.
